BVS Mortgages and Financial Services Ltd Teams Up with EduCare Foundation to Provide Educational Essentials for the Underprivileged Children in Sri Lanka
BVS Mortgages and Financial Services LTD places high value on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and prioritises this as part of its business value set. Continuing through the years, BVS has been supporting various community development projects in Sri Lanka together with the EduCare Foundation, a non-profit organisation working towards building better lives for communities and enriching impoverished livelihoods.
Following the pandemic and the devastating impact it had on Sri Lanka’s economy, the number of people living below the poverty line has almost doubled. According to the World Health Organisation’s figures as of 2023, an estimated 25.9% Sri Lankans live below the poverty line. This is why identifying and supporting marginalised groups is considered as important.
As a socially responsible organisation, BVS continues to collaborate with the EduCare Foundation through the years, supporting these poverty stricken and marginalised groups particularly targeting rural communities. EduCare Foundation is a well known and respected non governmental organisation in Sri Lanka that operates its initiatives at ‘grassroot’ levels to accurately assess the most needy children and families. They partner with other organisations as well to help fund projects that are geared at helping these segments of society.
Together with EduCare Foundation, our most recent collaboration was a donation of school stationery packs to nearly 500 children from various schools located in some of the most rural districts around Sri Lanka.
Even though Sri Lanka is a small island, accessibility to these places is rough and difficult. Situated within the Central, North Central and North Western provinces, some of these schools are located in the middle of a jungle or on top of mountainous sections without proper roadways.
BVS Mortgages and Financial Services LTD together with the EduCare Foundation, are delighted to have been able to make a marked difference in the lives of these children and pave a path for their future. We at BVS are humbly reminded of the impact we can create as a business entity by contributing towards something fulfilling and enriching such as a child’s education.
The dedication and passion of the EduCare Foundation is incomparable. Their team members have carried out the necessary groundwork regardless of how difficult or inaccessible some of these locations are. Their advocacy on a child’s right to education is remarkable.
Education is a cornerstone for every child in the world. It is the foundation they build their future on and a basic necessity they deserve. Eliminating obstacles and providing for their educational needs is a recognizable responsibility that we at BVS firmly believe in.
As collaborative partners, our organisations will work together in the future as well in our collective bid to eradicate poverty and provide for those who cannot afford even the basics in education. In the years to come, our commitment continues along with our pledge to provide the ways and means to carry out even more projects such as this.
In conclusion, here is a quote by a great man who changed the world and the way we think: “Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life.” — Nelson Mandela.
